The Call of Duty franchise has come a long way from being a first-person shooter firmly grounded in real-world politics. Now, it not only has a battle royale mode but also jet-boosting ground vehicles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
When the gaming industry enters a certain trend, everything becomes infected with it. The MOBA genre was the previous king but has now been usurped with battle royale games and modes.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is no exception. Namely, a new mode within its Blackout battle royale mode — Heavy Metal Heroes — expands your repertoire of player-versus-player destruction.
Capes, hoods, flashy futuristic skins, jets, Cyclops-like powers — it all looks like some kind of merger between Avengers and Destiny. Coherent themes have become a thing of the past, especially when it comes to battle royale modes.
In the Heavy Metal Heroes mode, you will be able to drive all kinds of futuristic vehicles — based around their real-world models counterparts.
As befits their station, tanks seem to be the top firepower you can acquire, but they will need teamwork between two players — a driver and a gunner.
All of the vehicles will be airdropped at the location you designate with a new flare gun.
Of course, what would the new generation of Call of Duty be without personal jetpacks extending to armored vehicles, as well? The Heavy Metal Heroes mode will have all the vehicles equipped with thrusters for some frenzied maneuvering.
As an icing on the vehicle cake, the new Heavy Metal Heroes mode also comes with a new weapon and body armor.
Lastly, Blackout is set to expand its map collection with a new post-apocalyptic setting alongside two experimental weapons from its Zombie mode — Winter’s Fury and Savage Impaler.
