As we wait for August 6 — when the latest Hearthstone expansion, Saviors of Uldum, will launch — Blizzard is treating us with a surprising trailer.
Storywise, Saviors of Uldum is a continuation of the League of E.V.I.L. villains’ plotline — introduced in Hearthstone’s 11th expansion, Rise of Shadows. As you recall, this expansion, released in April this year, added a massive stable of new collectible cards. (135, to be exact.) An alternate female priest hero, Madame Lazul, was also added.
Although some would say that collectible card games are based too much on luck, the fun is all about the themes, the art, the visual styles, and the exuberant community formed around them. Speaking of which, Blizzard offloaded its trailer-making prowess to the AmazingLP YouTube crew. Behold the Saviors of Uldum as they are envisioned in their live-action trailer:

Community-made videos have truly come a long way thanks to modern CGI software combined with some skilled cosplaying!
The card reveal in question is the Mortuary Machine:
- 8/8 epic minion mech
- 5 mana cost
Mortuary Machine is the vessel for a new mechanic in the upcoming Saviors of Uldum – Reborn mechanic. Specifically, in the case of Mortuary Machine, the effect is as follows:
After your opponent plays a minion, give it Reborn.
This means that the minions with the imbued Reborn effect don’t die when you first reduce their health to nothing. However, they are not actually reborn with a full set of health. Instead, they are revived with just one health left at your disposal. As is the case with many Hearthstone cards, the Reborn effect can backfire badly if the buff is imparted to your opponent.
That’s why Hearthstone is all about clever synergies!
For example, to ensure that your opponent doesn’t benefit from the Reborn boon, a Priest deck can silence it. All the while, in the mid-game, your epic 8/8 Mortuary Machine dishes out heavy damage.
There are other ways to amplify this card’s benefits and nullify its downsides. Hint: The Boomsday Project’s Magnetic mechanic.
Remember, Hearthstone is all about discovering a crushing combo and then waiting for the luck of the draw to make it happen.
