MechWarrior 5 Delayed, Exclusive to Epic Games Store

Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries

Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries will be launching as an Epic Games Store exclusive — though a bit later than was initially anticipated.

The Piranha Games-developed single-player combat simulation game will release exclusively on the Epic Games Store on December 10, 2019.

Pilots from the Community Pre-order will get to play the game in November, however, during its Closed Beta period. The content available to play during this Closed Beta will be limited to practice missions.

According to the game’s most recent development update, partnering with Epic Games will help the development studio make the best MechWarrior game they can possibly make. How exactly the partnership assists with this, however, is undefined.

Individuals unhappy with the delay are able to get refunds for their pre-order. Refunds are available until September 1, 2019. As an added bonus, refunded individuals may still keep bonus MechWarrior Online content from all of the game’s editions — Standard, Collector, and Ultimate. However, refunded individuals will (obviously) give up their right to play the full game until they purchase it once more.

It may be safe to assume that the exclusivity deal revolves around financial incentives, especially considering Epic Games is rolling in cash.

As Joystickr previously reported, Epic Games recently donated a substantial $1.2 million to the Blender Foundation as part of its Epic MegaGrants.

Epic Games financial well-being stems largely from its highly-successful Unreal Engine 4 — for which the developers receive a five-percent royalty on gross revenue above $3,000 per product — and the massive mainstream success of online video game Fortnite.
