The PC launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 has been plagued by technical issues. As the bugs are being patched out, take advantage of Rockstar’s apology — which included some free stuff.
If your renegade exploration of the Wild West was ruined by nasty technical bugs, there are workarounds already present. Specifically, for the issue of stuttering and freezing, you can download this little program. It will allow you to limit the CPU utilization of RDR2.exe.
For PC veterans, improper CPU utilization of old games is a reoccurring issue — so it is quite a surprise that this problem would persist even with a brand new PC port.
If you don’t know what any of this means or care not to, the good news is that Rockstar has fully identified the problems. As a result, the official patch to permanently resolve any remaining issues is in the works.

Some companies would not even deem to offer an official response — instead, framing the problem as one that exists within a tiny minority of systems, so it would be too hard to replicate and fix. Some companies would deem a mere apology as sufficient. Not Rockstar.
In addition to the acknowledgment that the problem is identified and being actively worked on, you will get a free Red Dead Online bonus bundle. This free bonus will apply to anyone playing the game this week and going forward into the Christmas season.
If you are not comfortable with downloading programs and tampering with your CPU — as most people aren’t — it is very likely that the technical issues with Red Dead Redemption 2 will be resolved by the end of this month, as Rockstar works alongside Nvidia to clamp down on certain GPUs not cooperating with certain CPUs.
Consequently, don’t forget to keep an eye on the latest Nvidia drivers as Rockstar deploys new RDR2 patches.
